How to Pick the Right Air Purifier for Your Home
Share
Dust, pet hair, pollen and cooking smells all affect the air you breathe at home. A good air purifier can help keep the air in a room cleaner and fresher. Here is how to choose one.
1. Match the purifier to your room size
Every purifier is designed for a certain room size. Measure your room (length x width in feet) and choose a model rated for that area or a little larger. A small desktop purifier is perfect for a bedroom or office, while a living room needs a stronger unit.
2. Look for a HEPA filter
HEPA filters are designed to capture very small particles such as dust, pollen and pet dander. Many purifiers also include a pre-filter for larger particles and an activated carbon layer to help reduce odors.
3. Check the CADR if it is listed
CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate) shows how quickly a purifier cleans the air. A higher CADR means faster cleaning for the same room size.
4. Think about noise
If the purifier will run in your bedroom, look for a quiet or sleep mode. Running it on low all night is often better than running it on high for a short time.
5. Plan for filter replacement
Filters need to be replaced regularly to keep working well. Check how often the filter should be changed and make sure replacements are easy to find.
Where to place your air purifier
- Put it where you spend the most time, like your bedroom.
- Leave some space around it so air can flow in and out.
- Keep doors and windows closed while it runs for the best results.
